Sometimes the best speeches are the thoughtful speeches. The slow speeches. The heartfelt, tear-jerking speeches. Of course, there’s always a place for humor, but stopping to be serious is important too. One way to slow down is by just making sure you stop to take a breath. Pause in your speech. Allow time for yourself as well as the audience to think, process, laugh, or cry. Use a pause as a transition to the next thought or as a segue to your final toast.
